The Auburn Studio | Questionnaire

1. What was the brief you received from the client for this project?

The client sought a renovation for their old city apartment, which they wanted to maintain as a cherished space filled with memories of their children growing up. Having recently moved to ECR, they envisioned giving the city apartment a fresh, minimalistic look that differed from their bungalow. The primary goal was to create a bright, airy space with a clean and modern aesthetic.

2. Let us know something about the client.

The client prefers to remain anonymous.

3. Is there a name associated with the house?

Oslo Home – An homage to Norway, reflecting the Scandinavian design inspiration that guided the renovation.

4. What was the design inspiration for the scheme and what was the design process like?

The design narrative for Oslo Home was inspired by the client’s appreciation for airy Scandinavian aesthetics. The goal was to transform the apartment into a serene sanctuary with a symphony of light and simplicity. The concept focused on creating a bright and open environment with soft beige hues and gentle wood accents that echo nature’s warmth. Design Process: The original shell of the apartment was preserved, but significant updates were made to joinery, flooring, and surfaces to align with a contemporary Scandinavian approach. The apartment originally featured dark wood flooring, which made the space feel dark and enclosed. To shift the energy of the home, we opted for bright Scandinavian colors, incorporating light beige and soft wood tones.
